Blast From The Past.

I've got a feeling that with a title like that, people are probably thinking like 80's music or something.
Well, we're going back a little bit farther than that. But only a little.
We're going back to 1939.
The beginning of World War 2 and the era of big band swing.

Do me a favor, and try to imagine yourself in a dance club back in 1939. There's the big wooden dance floor and a stage up front. Set up on the stage is Glenn Miller and his jazz orchestra. 5 saxes, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, piano, bass and drums. It's a perfectly balanced big band. They play the song In The Mood (the one I'm giving you today) and everyone begins to dance. Swing dance. Men in suits and women in flowing dresses. Picture yourself and your love dancing. It's wonderful, isn't it??

This has got to be one of my favorite jazz charts. And I can say for a fact that it's fun, yet difficult to play. I played the 2nd tenor sax part with my school's jazz ensemble. It was so much fun.

In The Mood is a big band swing standard. From the roaring brass section to the aggressive saxes. It's the epitome of perfection for the jazz lover. The up-beat tempo was (and is) swing. Just that typical swing style.

If you're a little iffy on the whole simply instrumental thing, too bad. This is pure enjoyment to listen to. I always get the urge to sing along. Okay, well scat along. The beginning: "Ba da la bob bob bob sha dooby doo ba dooby da ba daaa.."
Try it, and enjoy!! =)
